Saturday, 10/21/23 NSBA in Kearney
For our KHS Pit Crew: by 7:45 pm please report to the Band room so that by no later than 8:15 we can start and help push equipment to the South end of the school. We need to have everything at the Pit Area at the South end, ready to go, so we can stage outside the fence at 8:30 pm, on deck at 8:45, and perform at 9:00 pm. After the performance we will ‘park’ our equipment at the Southwest corner of the track.
After KHS performs, we will participate and have fun with Pit Crew Olympics. We need to bring several teams to the Olympics. This is a fun time to cheer on our guests and enjoy the Olympics together. UNK performs at 9:30 after the Pit Olympics, and the Awards are at 9:45 pm
After awards we cleanup and help get our equipment back to the Band room and we also put carts and podiums and uniform carts in the trailer for storage purposes. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Remember to wear BLUE to support our Band.
Also, remember that we represent KHS Band, KHS and the city of Kearney as we host this event. Help us make our guests feel welcome and help them enjoy their visit. This is a great event for us to host.

We are hosting NSBA 2023 Kearney! If you can volunteer to help with hosting, we appreciate your help. Event volunteers will be able to help with our band pit crew as well. All bands will have arrived by the time we need to tend to our Band so if you are an event volunteer you can then transition to our Pit Crew team and help with moving our equipment. Hosting & Setup Details for Parking & Pit Crew:
1. KPD barricades at entrances (night before – leave space for exiting cars
2. KPD barricades ready for south and north street closure
7:30 am Sunrise – start prep/setup of outside: Get Gator & Golf cart from Track shed
1. Vinyl signage – steel posts, driver, zip ties
NW corner by 11th&30th, NE corner by 11th&27th entrance, E of 11th&27th entrance
2. Tall orange cones at entrance to route buses toward parking lot
3. Tall orange reflective cones by entrances
4. Warmup A & B signs on light poles
5. Trailer 2 by curb by entrance, Trailer 1 in lot creating Warmup area, pennant banner between trailers (blue post stands)
6. Trash Cans out on curbs out from loading dock
7. Feather flag at entrance by loading dock (band entrance / restroom entrance)
8. Yard signs for bus entrance, bus exit, restrooms, pit crew entrance, spectator entrance, …
9. Pennant banner directing bands into big-K entrance on East
10. Small cones on North & South endzone over cables by field goal posts
11. 1 Small cone at Pit Start line
12. Clear field of athletic equipment
13. Move extra trailers off drive on South side of field
14. Yard line markers with sand bags on front sideline
15. Extension cord out to 50 yd line on front sideline
16. Mark corners of sand pit by exit for safety as bands exit
17. Verify that exit gate is unlocked – keep it closed until bands start exiting (guests may try enter there)
18. Setup and move KHS podium stands to south end of field – between fences

Pit Crew Olympics
Each school may form as many teams as they desire, but team members may not participate on multiple teams. Teams are made up of 4 or 5 members of Pit Crew volunteers. Be prepared to carry, push, setup, stack, and run to match the best time.
