10/22/22 NSBA in Kearney
We are hosting NSBA 2022! If you can volunteer to help with hosting, we appreciate your help. Event volunteers will be able to help with our band pit crew as well. All bands will have arrived by the time we need to tend to our Band so if you are an event volunteer you can then transition to our Pit Crew team and help with moving our equipment. To see the Crew schedule, visit: http://bit.ly/nsba22crew
For our KHS Pit Crew, at 7:40 pm please report to the Band room so that by no later than 8:00 we start and help push equipment to the South end of the school. We need to have everything at the Pit Area at the South end, ready to go, so we can stage outside the fence at 8:15 pm, on deck at 8:30, and perform at 8:45 pm. After the performance we will ‘park’ our equipment at the Southwest corner of the track.
UNK performs after KHS and then we will participate and have fun with Pit Crew Olympics. We need to bring several teams to the Olympics. This is a fun time to cheer on our guests and enjoy the Olympics together.
After awards we cleanup and help get our equipment back to the Band room. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Remember to wear BLUE to support our Band.
Also, remember that we represent KHS Band, KHS and the city of Kearney as we host this event. Help us make our guests feel welcome and help them enjoy their visit. This is a great event for us to host.
Thank you for all of your help this year. We appreciate each and every one of you who have helped on the Pit Crew team, if it was for every event or for just one night, you are appreciated very much!

10/15/22 Vermillion, SD – Quad-State Competition
On Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, we travel to Vermillion, South Dakota for the Quad-State Competition.
We load at 10:30 am at KHS and depart at 11:00 which will get us to Vermillon by 4:00 pm.
The pit trailers park in lot 39 on the South side of the Sports Complex and the buses park in lot 36 to the South of the pit trailers. Look for our blue trailer, that’s the best I can recommend until we get there. Once we get our staging area established, we will unload the trailers and prep for the Band’s warmup and performance.
The competition field is in the Dakota Dome ( 1101 N. Dakota St. Vermillion, SD 57069). Our warmup is at 7:15 pm and we perform at 8:15 pm. After our performance, we will load up the trailers. Awards are at 9:00 pm and at 10:00 we leave for Kearney and arrive about 2:00 am.
Please be sure to sign up on the Sign Up Genius (see the Band website for links). We need to know who will be there so we are sure to have sufficient help.
Thank you for supporting the Band by helping on the Pit Crew. You are appreciated!
Remember to wear BLUE.

09/23/22 Football Game & Halftime
This week’s football game and halftime will run similar to the last game on 9/2/22.
We need your help on the Pit Crew for the Friday, September 23, 2022 Football Game Halftime.
We unload instruments at the trailer on the South side of the Library at UNK (East of Fine Arts) at 5:30 pm.
Then we move the trailer to the North end of Foster Field at UNK and unload the Front Ensemble equipment. This happens right away at about 6:00 pm, before pregame.
Then you can watch most of the first half. At 5:00 minutes before halftime, meet at the trailer at the North end of the field to prepare for halftime.
After halftime we reload the percussion equipment back in to the trailer.
After the game please make sure all tuba stands, all percussion stands, and the rope come back to the trailer (which will be parked on the south side of CT Ryan library).
Check back here for any changes or updated information.
Contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694 with questions. Thank you for helping!
NOTE: This year may again bring schedule changes at a moment’s notice. Please check this page for Pit Crew changes and check the Sign-Up Genius for schedule changes. We appreciate your help and your flexibility. We will do our best to give our students the best possible experience again this year.
Now for the details if you’re interested.
The Band marches halftime at Friday night’s game. We need your help right before the game (during pregame) and possibly as the game starts at the North end of Foster Field, by the blue Band trailer. We will help get equipment unloaded so the Pit can warm up and get everything set up. We should be unloaded by the start of the game so you can then watch the first quarter and most of the second quarter. Then, at 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd Quarter, we need everyone back at the trailer and we will get ready to go on the field. At 2 minutes before Halftime, we move on to the NW side of the field to preset and then move to the field at the start of halftime. After the Band has performed we move everything back off the field and load it all back in to the trailers. This week will be our first run this year, so there may be some adjustments made as we go – thank you in advance for your patience as we get everything fine tuned. These first weeks are vital because we are establishing what we each need to be doing for Halftime so that when the competitions start, we know the routine and can execute smoothly. Come join the team, we will have a fun time.
We could also use a few people to help at 5:30 pm at UNK Fine Arts to get the percussion battery and sousaphones out. Look for the blue Band trailer – we will be parked on the South side of the C.T. Ryan Library (East of the Fine Arts building). Then again AFTER the game please help pick up the percussion stands and the tuba stands and bring them to the trailer at the same spot East of UNK Fine Arts where we load the battery and sousaphones back in to the trailer and then unload back at the High School Band room. Students do most of this work, but it helps to have some adults around to assist in loading & unloading the trailer at UNK as the students are in uniform and we don’t want to risk damaging uniforms as we load and unload stuff from the trailer.
Remember to Sign Up on the Band Website at SignupGenius (see link on Band website) for your spot for each performance. IF possible, it would be ideal to have the same 12 people for the competitions and games so that everyone has their job and know what needs to happen. But, we understand that not everyone can be at every game and competition, so we appreciate your help and your willingness to volunteer and support the Band.
We do have two trailers, the regular blue Band trailer for the font ensemble, battery percussion, sousaphones, etc., and the second trailer for the podium stands, extra pit equipment, props and hat bags (during competitions).
We have a large pyramid prop this year, so we need extra help in addition to our regular pit crew.
Your help is needed and it is appreciated! Thank you!
Remember to wear BLUE.
If you have any questions, call or text Ed Uden 308-440-0694.
Note: We are moving/adding a Pit Crew page on the Kearney Bands website. Ed will post both here and on that blog until we get completely migrated to the Band website. Click here.

09/17/22 Saturday UNK Parade & BMF Field CompetitionA big thank you to everyone helping with the Pit Crew this year. You are appreciated!
For the UNK Band Day Parade, the trailer will not be going to the parade (per the Directors), so students will need to get their own equipment to and from the parade, and we will not need to have anyone at the parade route to load/unload the trailer. This gives us time to be ready for the BMF parking and pit area details.
For the Bearcat Marching Festival, the Band equipment will be in the KHS Band room. The Band is to assemble at 1:45 pm in the Band room, so our Kearney Pit Crew needs to be available by 2:00 pm to help move all the equipment to the South end of the HS parking lot. We begin staging our pit crew outside the fence at 2:30 pm so we need to start moving equipment from the Band room at 2:20 pm so we are at the South end of the field by 2:30 pm. At 2:45 pm we move our Pit on to the track (On Deck). We follow Columbus, so when they are On Deck (their Pit is on the track), our Pit needs to be in the staging area outside the fence. Be sure to stay on the North half of that driveway so that the Columbus band can enter the field and perform. After the Columbus band enters the field, the Hastings Pit will exit the field and then our KHS Pit will enter the track and be On Deck. Stay on the outside four lanes and be in the order we enter the field. Remember that this is in reverse order from what we do at UNK for football halftime shows. The sound system and speakers will always be first, but the rest of the pit will be in reverse order. Once the Pit is set out on the field, we stand back against the front of the stadium while they perform. After their performance, we will move everything to the Band Room. If you can help with getting equipment to the Band room and with cleanup, that would be appreciated.
If you are helping with the BMF event, you need to stay at your position with the volunteers for the BMF event until we assemble at 2:30 pm. At 2:30 pm please join our KHS Pit Crew for moving our gear for the KHS Band performance. Those not helping with BMF will need to help us with moving equipment from the Band room to the South end of the field while the BMF volunteers are finishing their tasks. The Parking workers should be done when Columbus parks, so they should be able to leave their posts and help on schedule. The Pit Area volunteers will need to get Hastings and Columbus on the field and then they can join the KHS Pit to help get KHS on/off the field.
Thank you for your help. We appreciate everyone who is helping. Everyone is needed for this event to happen successfully, both as a BMF volunteer and as a KHS Pit Crew volunteer. Thank you.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for helping and supporting the KHS Band.
Be sure to make our BMF guests feel welcome. Remember, we represent Kearney in all we do.

09/24/21 Football Halftime
Thank you to everyone who helped with last week’s festival – both the event volunteers and the Pit Crew for our Band – it went well. This Friday’s Football Game Halftime will run very similar to last time. We will try keep everyone on the same tasks as last game if possible. Please be sure to sign up on the Pit Crew Sign-up Genius and don’t forget to wear BLUE. We do need more help on the Pit Crew, so please invite someone to sign up and come help us. Sign-up Genius
We start out by unloading instruments at the trailer on the South side of the Library at UNK (East of Fine Arts) at 5:30 pm. Then we move the trailer to the North end of Foster Field and unload the Front Ensemble equipment. This happens before the pre-game. Then you can watch some of the first half. After halftime we reload the equipment in to the trailer. After the game please make sure all tuba stands, all percussion stands, and the rope comes back to the trailer (parked East of Fine Arts). The tuba stands are the main thing we need to get back to the trailer by the time the Band gets there. We will bring the two-wheeled cart to help us transport them.

09/18/21 Saturday UNK Parade & BMF Field Competition
The trailer will NOT be going to the parade (per the Directors), so students will need to get their own equipment to and from the parade, and we will not need to have anyone at the parade route to load/unload the trailer. This gives us time to be ready for the BMF parking and pit area details. Know that you can be both a KHS Pit Crew volunteer ~and~ volunteer to help with the BMF event. Our band is last, so we will just follow our Pit on to the field as the event will be over after our performance.
The Band equipment will be in the KHS Band room when we arrive. The Band is to assemble in Warmup area A at 2:50 pm, so our Kearney Pit Crew needs to be available by 2:40 pm to help move all the equipment to the South end of the HS parking lot. We begin staging our pit crew outside the fence at 3:00 pm. At 3:15 pm we move our Pit on to the track. So, we need to be set up and ready to go for performance no later than 3:05 pm at the South end. We follow GISH, so when they are On Deck (their Pit is on the track), our Pit needs to be in the staging area outside the fence. Be sure to stay on the North half of that driveway so that the GISH band can enter the field and perform. After the GISH band enters the field, the Hastings Pit will exit the field and then our KHS Pit will enter the track and be On Deck. After their performance, we will move everything off the field and then to the Band Room. If you can help with getting equipment to the Band room and with cleanup, that would be appreciated.
If you are helping with the BMF event, you need to stay at your position with the volunteers for the BMF event until we assemble at 2:45 pm. At 2:45 pm please join our KHS Pit Crew for moving our gear for the KHS Band performance. Those not helping with BMF will need to help us with moving equipment while the BMF volunteers are finishing their tasks. The Parking workers should be done when GISH parks, so they should be able to leave their posts and help on schedule. The Pit Area volunteers will need to get NP & GISH on the field and then they can join the KHS Pit to help get KHS on/off the field.

Pit Crew Volunteers help move the Band equipment. We load and unload the trailer before and after games and competitions as well as moving the pit equipment on and off the field for the performances. Contact Ed Uden with any questions.
We need your help on the Pit Crew for the Friday, August 27, 2021 Football Game Halftime.
We unload instruments at the trailer on the South side of the Library at UNK (East of Fine Arts) at 5:30 pm.
Then we move the trailer to the North end of Foster Field and unload the Front Ensemble equipment. This happens before the pre-game. Then you can watch some of the first half. At 5:00 minutes before halftime, meet at the trailer at the North end of the field to prepare for halftime. After halftime we reload the percussion equipment in to the trailer. After the game please make sure all tuba stands, all percussion stands, and the rope come back to the trailer.
Check back here for any changes or updated information.
Contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694 with questions. Thank you for helping!
NOTE: This year may again bring schedule changes at a moment’s notice. Please check this blog for Pit Crew changes and check the Sign-Up Genius for schedule changes. We appreciate your help and your flexibility. We will do our best to give our students the best possible experience again this year.
Now for the details if you’re interested.
The Band marches halftime at Friday night’s game vs GISH.
Your help is needed and it is appreciated! Thank you!
Remember to wear BLUE.

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Band this year. We have one more football halftime this Friday, 10/23/2020. Plase sign up on the Signup-Genius so we know we have enough help on hand. Remember to wear blue.
The football game will be our normal schedule. We unload instruments by the UNK library at 5:30. Then at 6:00 we move the trailer to the North end of UNK Foster Field and unload the Front Ensemble. At 5:00 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, meet at the trailer to prepare for moving everything on the field for the halftime show. After halftime, we reload the trailer. After the game, please make sure all percussion and tuba stands are returned to the trailer. The trailer will be by the library for reloading instruments after the game. After we have everything loaded, we will move to KHS to unload the trailer back to the Band room for Saturday’s competition.
On Saturday, 10/24/2020, we need to meet by the Band room by 3:00 pm to help move our pit equipment to the track. See our volunteer crew schedule/plan at: http://bit.ly/kccc2020crew
We move the equipment to the South end of the football field, setup in ‘reverse-UNK’ order, run the show, and then move all equipment back to the Band room after our Band’s performance.

10/02/20 Football Halftime and 10/03/20 Aurora Competition
Thank you to everyone for a job well done in Columbus last weekend. This weekend we have a football game on Friday night and the Aurora Invitational on Saturday morning. See the Band website Itineraries page. Please sign up on the Signup-Genius so we know we have enough help on hand at both the football game and the Aurora competition.
Once we have the trailer reloaded after the game, we leave it loaded overnight for Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning, with everything already loaded, please meet in Aurora at 9:15 when the Band arrives. Look for the blue trailer – this is a new competition location so we will discover where we will be once we arrive. The band warms up at 10:15 and performs at 10:45. After 12:30 the band will do a sack lunch and then return to Kearney and unload.
Aurora High School – 300 West L St, Aurora, NE 68818
Call/text Ed at 308-440-0694 if you have questions or need directions.
Remember to wear BLUE.

09/26/20 Columbus Field Competition
We hit the road starting this Saturday. See the Band website Itineraries page. Please sign up on the Signup-Genius so we know we have enough help on hand in Columbus.
We plan to load the trailers about 9:30 am on Saturday. There is no game on Friday so we will not have the trailer loaded from the game. Just a few of us will get it loaded. If you cannot help with loading on Saturday morning, that will be ok. We need the help in Columbus. The Band will load at 10:30 and leave KHS by 11:00 am on Saturday. The trailers will follow the buses.
At 1:00 pm we arrive in Columbus and after the sack lunch break (remember to bring your sack lunch), the Band will arrive at Pawnee Park (3420 Pawnee Plaza, Columbus, NE 68601) for competition (Hwy81 & 8th St). We unload the trailer and prepare the pit for competition. We will need to assist the students in moving the pit equipment to their warm-up area and then to the competition field. Look for our blue trailer parked Southeast of the field. Hopefully this part will be the same this year as in previous years, however, look for our blue trailer – we could be located anywhere around that area.
Kearney’s performance time is 3:00 pm. Note that we normally enter the field from the South side of the stadium, so we will be in modified field order (opposite of our UNK order). Once our performance is complete, we exit the field on the North side of the stadium and move our equipment back to the trailer and load the trailer.
We will leave for Kearney by 4:30 pm and arrive in Kearney around 6:30 pm. We unload the trailer back in to the Band room when we get to the High School.
It will be a big day and we will do our best to represent Kearney well.
Please remember to wear BLUE. With all of us in blue, we help add to the uniform look of the band.
Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew Team. You are appreciated!

09/04/20 Football Halftime
Thank you to everyone who helped with last week’s game. We have a great team again this year. We are glad you’re part of the Pit Crew team. This Friday’s Football Game Halftime will run very similar to last week’s. We will try keep everyone on the same tasks as last week if possible. Please be sure to sign up on the Pit Crew Sign-up Genius and don’t forget to wear BLUE.
At 5:00 minutes before halftime, meet at the trailer at the North end of the field to prepare for moving to the filed at 2:00 minutes and doing halftime. After halftime we reload the equipment in to the trailer. After the game please make sure all tuba stands, all percussion stands, and the rope come back to the trailer. The tuba stands are the main thing we need to get back to the trailer by the time the Band gets there. We will bring the two-wheeled cart to help us transport them this week.
Check back here for any changes or updated information.

10/26/19 – NSBA in Kearney
The Final Saturday is upon us. Thank you for being part of the Pit Crew this year. It has been a great marching season and it has been fun working together. Thank you to everyone who endured the rain on Friday night and helped get our equipment dried out, as well as helping re-load the trailer on Saturday morning. Lincoln went well last Saturday and Kearney was represented very well. Good job, team!
Please note that you can work on our Band Pit Crew ~and~ Volunteer to help with NSBA in any area, AND, you can be a Volunteer for NSBA ~and~ help with our Band’s Pit Crew for our performance. We are the last HS band to perform, so we can just follow our Band in to the field.
Saturday starts at 7:00 pm for our Pit Crew in the KHS Band room where we need those on the crew who are not actively working/volunteering hosting the event, to help the Pit move the equipment around the West side of the High School, through the South parking lot and to the South-west corner of the football field area. We will help the Pit set up the equipment, wagons and sound system in preparation for their performance. Please be sure to bring the podium skirts to put them on our podiums at the gate. IF you are one of the volunteers helping host the event, when Grand Island (the band right before Kearney) has left your area, please join our band and help us get our Pit on and off the field. You will be able to volunteer for either the afternoon or evening shifts and still be able to help our Band’s Pit Crew.
The Band marches in competition at 8:30 pm. Please start moving our Pit equipment out of the Band room NO LATER THAN 7:50 PM and go around the West side of the build to the South parking lot. We need to be staging our equipment by 8:00 pm on the South side of the field (just outside the fence), and we are On Deck at 8:15 pm on the track ready to go. After the competition we will hold the Pit equipment at the South-West corner of the track/field while we wait for UNK’s performance and Awards. We will send the Pit students to join the Band immediately after the performance to get pictures taken in the Gym. After the Awards we will help move the Pit equipment back to the Band room. The trailer will not be used for the Band at this performance. Note that our three podium stands will be on the track in front of the stadium during the day. We will need to get our podium stands after the afternoon awards so we can skirt them before our performance. We will put them between the two fences for the evening. UNK will want to use the two side podium stands after our performance so we will need to remove the skirts so they can take them back on to the field. Remember to put the podium skirts back in the bag and then back in the trailer during cleanup.
After UNK’s exhibition performance and before the awards, we will participate in the Pit Crew Olympics. This is something fun that the crowd really enjoyed last year and have asked for it to return this year. This involves the Pit Crew Parents from other schools, to have fun with the crowd. We have spoken with other school’s Pit Crews and they are in, so let’s have some fun with this. Scott Murrish is coordinating this and he has it set up for teams of 4 to compete. Our Pit Crew is big enough that we can enter TWO teams in this event. Let’s have fun and cheer on other teams. Give it our best and represent Kearney well.
After everything is over, if you are available, we would appreciate any help with clean-up.

Thank you all for helping to make this a great marching season for our students.
You are appreciated!
Remember to wear BLUE on Saturday. Let’s represent Kearney well.

10/19/19 – Lincoln LPS competition
This Saturday is the Lincoln LPS Competition at Seacrest Field at 3:45 pm.
Seacrest Field in Lincoln is at 75th and ‘A’ streets. (GPS coordinates: 40.798958, -96.621382)
We will load the trailer on Friday afternoon for the game and will leave the trailer loaded overnight on Friday.
We will load buses at 11:00 am and leave KHS by 11:30 am on Saturday. This should get us to Seacrest in Lincoln no later than 1:30 pm. Look for the blue trailer and the Bearcat buses in the West parking lot. We hope to be able to park toward the North side of the West parking lot, but it all depends on what they have available and what we can find when we get there. We will unload the battery percussion and flag carts and sousaphones by the buses promptly so they are ready for their 3:10 pm Warmup time. It would be best if the whole crew gathered by the buses before we went to the field staging area in order to start getting ready.
Then we will move the trailer to the North end of the field to unload the pit equipment. This is probably around 3:15 pm that we will be down on the North end of the field getting everything unloaded and ready. There will numerous bands there on the back side of the buildings North of the field, so we will need to be efficient and probably will not have a lot of room to spread out while we get ready.
The Band is On Deck at 3:35 pm and performs at 3:45 pm. We will enter the field from the North end, just like we do at UNK. The Band will enter from the North end with us, just like we did at GI. Remember that once the Band takes the field after everything has been set up and we have exited the field, even if something falls, we cannot enter the field to assist (it’s a penalty point). It’s all up to the students during the performance. This is also a timed performance. We have 15 minutes to get on the field, perform the show, and get everything off the field. So when we are getting off the field, get it all loaded up and get past the goal line quickly. Once everyone is past the goal line, our time is over and we can resume a ‘normal’ pace.
After the performance, we will load the pit equipment in to the trailer and then return to the buses in the parking lot for the rest of the equipment where the Band loads instruments and puts equipment away, then we load the battery percussion, flags and sousaphones back on the trailer in preparation for traveling back home. Awards are at 5:15 pm. At about 6:00 pm the Band departs for the Gateway Mall for supper and at 8:00 we leave for home. We should arrive home around 10:00 pm and unload the trailer.
Remember to wear blue. Contact Ed if you have any questions (308-440-0694).
Thank you for helping – we’re glad you’re on the team.

10/18/19 Football Halftime
Great job in Lincoln last Saturday. It went well.
This Friday game plan will be the same as the last game.
If you have not signed up on Signup Genius, please do so for this game and for Saturday’s performance and for NSBA so that we know we have enough help to make it all work ok.
Check the post from the first game (8/30/19) for all the extra details.
Here is the short version.
+ 5:20 pm – Trailer at UNK Fine Arts- unload instruments
+ 5:50 pm – Trailer moves to Foster Field – at North end – setup percussion stands, rope, etc. in the stands – Unload the Trailer – we need every’s help if possible.
This is ‘Parents Night’ so the parents with Seniors will be at the North gate before the game. If you have a Senior, please participate in this. The rest of the crew will cover what is needed at the trailer during this time before the game.
+ Watch the 1st Quarter and up to the last 5 minutes of the 2nd Quarter.
+ 5:00 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, we need everyone back at the trailer to prepare for Halftime.
+ 2:00 minutes left, we move onto the side of the field.
+ Halftime – move everything in place, the Band does their show, then move everything off ASAP.
+ Reload everything back into the trailer.
+ Watch the rest of the game.
+ At the end of the game, please check the grandstand where the Band is to make sure all the percussion and sousaphone stands have been picked up and taken back to the trailer ASAP. We need help to get this accomplished on time. We need to get the sousa stands back to the trailer ASAP so they have them to use when putting the sousas away. Also make sure the rope and post/bracket come back to the trailer too. The two ladders need to go inside the fenced area under the grandstand.
+ Load all instruments back into the trailer back at Fine Arts when the Band gets there.
+ We will NOT unload the trailer at the High School. We will be traveling to Lincoln on Saturday. See the 10/19 Saturday blog entry for details.
Remember to Wear BLUE.
Thank you for supporting the Band. We are glad you’re on the team.

10/12/19 – Lincoln Links competition
This Saturday is the Lincoln Links Competition at Lincoln High School.
Lincoln High School is at 2229 ‘J’ Street. (GPS coordinates: 40.808414, -96.689421)
The trailer will be loaded from Friday night’s game, so no extra help is needed at KHS. A few of us will be at KHS to load hat boxes in trailer #2 (black trailer). See you all in Lincoln.
We will load buses at 1:30 pm and leave KHS by 2:00 pm on Saturday. This should get us in to Lincoln High School no later than 4:30 pm. Look for our blue trailer in the parking lot Northeast of the field. We hope to be able to park in the lot just Northeast of the field, but it all depends on what they have available and what we can find when we get there, they may park us on the street on the North side of the field too – just look for our blue trailer. We will unload the trailers promptly so they are ready for their 5:30 pm Warmup time. It would be best if the whole crew gathered as soon as we arrive so we can have everything ready to go and not be rushed. The trailers will not be moved during the warmup or performance.
Our Band is On Deck at 5:45 pm and performs at 6:00 pm. The Pit will enter the field from the North end, just like we do at UNK. When we enter the field onto the track, please stay on the outside four lanes. The Band will enter from the South end. So when we are getting off the field, get it all loaded up and get past the goal line as quickly as is safely possible. Once everyone is past the goal line, our time is over and we can resume a ‘normal’ pace.
After the performance, we will load all equipment in to the trailer in preparation for traveling back home. The Band has a Clinic immediately after their performance, so the it may take a bit before the students return to the trailer to tear down instruments and reload percussion, sousas and flags. We will need to be flexible for them. Awards are at 7:00 pm. At about 7:30 pm the Band departs for the Southpointe Mall for supper and by 10:00 we leave for home. We should arrive home around midnight and unload the trailer.
Remember to wear blue. Contact Ed if you have any questions (308-440-0694).
Thank you for helping – we’re glad you’re on the team.

10/11/19 Football Halftime
Great job crew on last Saturday in Grand Island. It went very well. Great teamwork. Thank you to each one of you for supporting the Band by helping on the Pit Crew.
This Friday game plan will be the same as the last game.
If you have not signed up on Signup Genius, please do so for each game and performance so that we know we have enough help to make it all work ok.
Check the post from the first game (8/30/19) for all the extra details.
Here is the short version.
+ 5:20 pm – Trailer at UNK Fine Arts- unload instruments (percussion & low brass).
+ 5:50 pm – Trailer moves to Foster Field – at North end – setup percussion stands, rope, etc. in the stands – Unload the Trailer – we need every’s help if possible.
+ Watch the 1st Quarter and up to the last 5 minutes of the 2nd Quarter of the game.
See the 10/12 Saturday blog entry for details.

10/05/19 – Harvest of Harmoney Parade & Competition
Thank you for helping with the GI competition this Saturday. Here is the plan.
The Band loads buses at 6:00 am and leaves KHS at 6:30 am. The trailer will already be loaded on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. We should not need much additional help for this early time. Meet us in GI.
We arrive at Connestoga Mall at 7:30 am. We unload the Battery percussion, Sousaphones and Flags at the mall. Look for our blue trailer and busses as we may change location but usually park in the Southeast parking lot, Southeast of the mall. Any Pit Crew members available that can help would be most beneficial. This preparation time happens quickly and any help is appreciated. Once the students are in uniform they take their percussion and sousaphones on the bus with them. We will leave the trailer parked at the mall during the parade. We step off for the parade at 9:15 am-ish.
The parade begins at 8:00 am going down 3rd Street. We arrive at the check in location at 10th & Walnut at 8:30 am. (band order) (parade route)
After the parade (10:00am-ish), we meet back at Connestoga Mall to load the Battery percussion, Flags and Sousaphones back on to the trailer and then we take a lunch break.
By 1:00 pm we are at a rehearsal at GI Central Catholic’s football field. We will unload the whole trailer for this rehearsal and then reload it after the rehearsal. This is a full unload / rehearsal / reload the trailer, so any/all of the Pit Crew that can be there is beneficial. At 3:00 the band will change in to uniforms and arrive at GISH by 3:30 pm.
By 3:15 pm the trailer arrives at GI Senior High (on the North side of the football field) and we unload the trailer and prepare for our show. We are On Deck at 4:50 pm and the Band performs on the field at 5:00 pm. (band order) We will follow the Hastings band’s performance. After our performance we reload the trailer and students return to the stadium for the awards.
Awards are at 6:15 pm. After awards (by 6:30?), we return to Kearney.
Back in Kearney we unload the trailer and we are finished.
If you have any questions, please contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694.
If something changes during the day, call/text Ed to find out what the plan is.
Remember to wear BLUE. Let’s represent Kearney with great class.

09/21/19 Saturday UNK Parade & BMF Field Competition
The trailer will NOT be going to the parade (per the Directors), so students will need to get their own equipment to and from the parade, and we will not need to have anyone at the parade route to load/unload the trailer. This gives us time to be ready for the BMF parking and pit area details.
The Band equipment will be in the KHS Band room. The Band is to assemble in Warmup area A at 2:45 pm, so our Kearney Pit Crew needs to be available by then to help move all the equipment to the South end of the HS parking lot. We begin staging our pit crew outside the fence at 3:00 pm. At 3:15 pm we move our Pit on to the track. So, we need to be set up and ready to go for performance no later than 3:10 pm at the South end. We follow Grand Island Senior High, so when they are On Deck (their Pit is on the track), our Pit needs to be in the staging area outside the fence. Be sure to stay on the North half of that driveway so that the GISH band can enter the field and perform. After the GISH band enters the field, the North Platte Pit will exit the field and then our KHS Pit will enter the track and be On Deck.

08/30/19 Football Game
The season begins. Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew!
The Band marches halftime at Friday night’s game vs GISH. After the Band has performed we move everything back off the field and load it all back in to the trailer.
Then again AFTER the game at the same spot East of UNK Fine Arts to load the battery and sousaphones back in to the trailer and then unload back at the High School Band room. Students do most of this work, but it helps to have some adults around to assist in loading & unloading the trailer at UNK as the students are in uniform and we don’t want to risk damaging uniforms as we load and unload stuff from the trailer.
Remember to Sign Up on the Band Website at SignupGenius for your spot for each performance. IF possible, it would be ideal to have the same 12 people for the competitions and games so that everyone has their job and know what needs to happen. But, we understand that not everyone can be at every game and competion, so we appreciate your help and your willingness to volunteer and support the Band. The first eight (8) people to sign up will be offered a free pass lanyard to the Football game. (Please return the lanyard/pass to me after the game so we have it for the next game).
Your help is needed and it is appreciated! Thank you!
Remember to wear BLUE.

The following posts are from 2018

10/20/18 – NSBA in Kearney
The Final Saturday is upon us. Thank you for being part of the Pit Crew this year. It has been a great marching season and it has been fun working together.
Saturday starts at 6:45 pm for our Pit Crew in the KHS Band room where we need those on the crew who are not actively working/volunteering hosting the event, to help the Pit move the equipment around the West side of the High School, through the South parking lot and to the South-west corner of the football field area.
We need to be staging our equipment by 8:00 pm on the South side of the field, and we are On Deck at 8:15 pm on the track ready to go. After the competition we will hold the Pit equipment at the South end of the field while we wait for UNK’s performance and Awards. We will send the Pit students to join the Band after the performance to get pictures taken in the Gym.
This is something fun this year that we are trying with the Pit Crews from other schools, to have fun with the crowd. We have spoken with other school’s Pit Crews and they are in, so let’s have some fun with this. Scott Murrish is coordinating this and he has it set up for teams of 4 to compete. We will discuss this on Friday evening at the game.
After everything is over, if you are available, we would appreciate any help with clean-up.
For a site map with instructions and all time schedules, go to this link: http://bit.ly/NSBA18
* Note that I may need to make changes to this post as things develop. Please check back here for updates on Friday after the game if you can, or on Saturday morning before you come to the High School.
Thank you all for helping to make this a great marching season for our students.
You are appreciated!
Remember to wear BLUE on Saturday. Let’s represent Kearney well.

10/13/18 – Lincoln LPS competition
Thank you to everyone who helped in Grand Island last weekend.
You make Kearney proud!
This Saturday is the Lincoln LPS Competition at Seacrest Field at 4:15 pm.
Seacrest Field in Lincoln is at 75th and ‘A’ streets. (GPS coordinates: 40.798958, -96.621382)
The Band will load equipment carts on Friday afternoon and have everything ready to load but will leave everything in the Band room overnight due to the cold temperatures expected on Friday night. We will load the trailer on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. If a few of you are available, this can happen efficiently. The percussion students will be there, but for some of the stuff on top of the wagons and some of the heavier stuff it is nice to have the adults there to help.
We will load buses at 11:30 am and leave KHS at 12:00 noon on Saturday. This should get us to Seacrest in Lincoln no later than 2:30 pm. Look for the blue trailer and the Bearcat buses in the West parking lot. We hope to be able to park toward the North side of the West parking lot, but it all depends on what they have available and what we can find when we get there. We will unload the battery percussion and flag carts and sousaphones by the buses promptly so they are ready for their 3:40 pm Warmup time. It would be best if the whole crew gathered by the buses before we went to the field staging area in order to start getting ready.
Then we will move the trailer to the North end of the field to unload the pit equipment. This is probably around 3:40 pm that we will be down on the North end of the field getting everything unloaded and ready. There will numerous bands there on the back side of the buildings North of the field, so we will need to be efficient and probably will not have a lot of room to spread out while we get ready.
The Band is On Deck at 4:05 pm and performs at 4:15 pm.
Awards are at 6:00 pm. At about 6:15 pm the Band departs for the Mall for supper and at 8:00 we leave for home. We should arrive home around 10:00 pm and unload the trailer.
Remember to wear blue. Contact Ed if you have any questions (308-440-0694).
Thank you for helping – we’re glad you’re on the team.

10/6/18 – Harvest of Harmoney Parade & Competition
Great Job in Columbus last weekend. It went well, even with all the precipitation.
Thank you for helping with the GI competition this Saturday. Here is the plan.
The Band loads buses at 5:45 am and leaves KHS at 6:15 am. The trailer will already be loaded on Friday afternoon at 2:45 pm. We should not need much additional help for this early time. Meet us in GI.
We arrive at Conestoga Mall at 7:15 am. We unload the Battery percussion, Sousaphones and Flags at the mall. We are usually on the South-East parking lot of Conestoga Mall. Any Pit Crew members available that can help would be most beneficial. This preparation time happens quickly and any help is appreciated. Once the students are in uniform they take their percussion and sousaphones on the bus with them. We will leave the trailer parked at Conestoga mall during the parade. We step off for the parade at 8:55 am-ish.
The parade begins at 8:00 am going down 3rd Street. We arrive at the check in location at 10th & Walnut at 8:10 am.
After the parade (10:00am-ish), we meet back at Conestoga Mall to load the Battery percussion, Flags and Sousaphones back on to the trailer and then we take a lunch break.
By 1:00 pm we are at a rehearsal at GI Northwest’s football field. We will unload the whole trailer for this rehearsal and then reload it after the rehearsal. This is a full unload / rehearsal / reload the trailer, so any/all of the Pit Crew that can be there is beneficial. By 3:00 the band will change in to uniforms and depart for GISH by 3:45 pm.
By 4:00 pm we arrive at GI Senior High and unload the Battery percussion, flags and sousaphones on the South side of the High School (North of the field). Then we unload the pit equipment and prepare for our show. We are On Deck at 5:05 pm and the Band performs on the field at 5:15 pm. We will be the first Class AA band, following immediately after Class A awards. After our performance we reload the trailer and students return to the stadium for the awards. The Band Parents are providing supper for the students after they change out of their uniforms.
Awards are at 7:15 pm. After awards (by 8:00?), we load the trailer and return to Kearney.
Back in Kearney we unload the trailer and we are finished.
If you have any questions, please contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694.
If something changes during the day, call Ed to find out what the plan is.
Remember to wear BLUE. Let’s represent Kearney with great class.

09/29/18 Columbus Parade & Field Competition
We hit the road starting this Saturday. See the Band website Itineraries page.
The Band will load and leave KHS by 7:00 am on Saturday. The trailer will follow the buses.
At 9:00 am we arrive in Columbus and the band gets in uniform. We need to unload the instruments (carts 2 & 3 plus sousas) at this time. We will likely be a block or so South of the parade route in Columbus, usually in the gravel parking area by the railroad (about 25th Ave & 12th St). Once they have their instruments, we load the carts back on the trailer and lock it up and it stays parked. Then when Kearney is done with the parade, we load instruments back on the carts and are done with the parade.
After the parade, we break for lunch. The buses usually go to the HyVee area due to there being a number of fast-food restaurants around there (23rd St & 31st Ave area). The trailer will follow the buses.
The itinerary notes that the Parade awards are at 1:00 pm.
After the lunch break, the Band will go to the football field at 27th St and 25th Ave for a rehearsal. We will unload the trailer for this rehearsal. After the rehearsal, we reload the trailer and prepare to leave for the competition field.
At 3:20 pm we arrive at Pawnee Park for competition (Hwy81 & 8th St). We unload the trailer and prepare the pit for competition. We will need to assist the students in moving the pit equipment to their warm-up area and then to the competition field. Look for our blue trailer parked Southeast of the field.
Kearney’s performance time is 4:30 pm. Note that we will enter the field from the South side of the stadium, so we will be in modified field order (see below). Once our performance is complete, we exit the field on the North side of the stadium and move our equipment back to the trailer and load the trailer.
Field awards are at 5:15 pm. We will leave for Kearney by 6:00 pm and arrive in Kearney around 8:00 pm. We unload the trailer back in to the Band room when we get to the High School.
It will be a big day, but we will do our best to represent Kearney well.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew Team. You are appreciated!
Contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694 if you have any questions.

+ Pregame – Unload Trailer – we need every’s help if possible.

9/22/18 Saturday UNK Parade & BMF Field Competition
On Saturday morning, we need the about 6 guys to help at the Merryman at 9:00 am to unload the instruments from the trailer (this is similar to what happens at Fine Arts for a game). Then I will move the trailer to the Bus Barn area and we will reload the instruments there after the parade (11:50am?).
I will move the trailer to the High School on the South side in the Pit Crew parking area, and we will unload the trailer by 2:00 pm. The students will do a warmup and then at 2:45 pm we will start assembling the Pit in correct order outside the fence. At 3:00 pm we will be On-Deck on the track and the Band performs at 3:15 pm. After their performance, we will move everything to the Band Room instead of reloading the trailer.
Those not helping with BMF will need to help us with unloading and loading the trailer for the parade and unloading the trailer for the BMF field show.
Thank you for your help. We appreciate everyone who is helping. Everyone is needed for this event to happen successfully.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for helping and supporting the KHS Band.

09/08/18 Football Game & Halftime
Here is the plan for Friday’s game. Remember to wear BLUE.
The Band meets at the UNK Fine Arts building at 5:30 pm. I will have the blue Band Trailer on the South side of the Library by 5:20 pm. (this is just East of the Fine Arts building) I need a few guys to help unload battery percussion and sousaphones. Then we move the trailer up to Foster Field.
Right before the game starts, we could use most of the crew that is available to unload the Pit percussion. We should be finished unloading by the start of the game so we can go watch the game up until about 5 minutes left in the second quarter. At about 5 minutes left in the second quarter we need to have all Pit Dads at the Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium. We will prepare to move the Pit equipment out on to the field to preset at 2 minutes before Haftime, and then on to the field for Haftime. Then after the show we will move it back to the trailer and load the trailer back up. I will then move the trailer back to the South side of the Library, East of Fine Arts.
After the game, if you could help make sure all the percussion and sousaphone stands and the rope+pole comes back to the trailer, that would be great. The pit students and colorguard are asked to help carry these, but please check to make sure there is nothing remaining in the stadium when we leave. Then, I need a few guys to help load the battery percussion and sousaphones back on to the trailer. Once we’re loaded up, we will take the trailer back to the High School and unload it in to the Band room.
IF you are available at about 3:15 pm, any help with loading the trailer at the High School would be greatly appreciated. I have the Band kids to help and it would go even quicker if we had a couple of Dads to help. I’m not asking you to leave work, I’m just offering the opportunity if you are available and would be willing to help.
If you have not filled out the availability in SignUp Genius, please do so. That helps me know if we have enough help for all competitions and games. Sign up on the Band WebsiteatSignupGeniusfor your spot for each performance (it’s under the Pit Crew tab). We need to be in the mode of preparing for efficiency at competitions, so doing the same job at each game/competition is the goal. If you know of any other Band Dads who would be willing to help, have them contact me. You can also send them to this blog ( bearcatpitcrew.blogspot.com ) for information. Note that we have 8 free pass lanyards to the game, so the plan is to offer them to the first 8 people to sign up on SignUp Genius. I wish we had more, but eight is all we have been given.
Also note that I have updated the post below on loading the Band Trailer, Equipment Carts and Field Lineup 2018. This is updated after experiencing our first week. We are working to become more efficient in preparation for the competitions coming up.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for being on the team – your help is valuable and it is appreciated. See you on Friday.
Call/text Ed Uden if you have any questions (308-440-0694).

08/31/18 Football Game
The season begins. Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew!
After the Band has performed we move everything back off the field and load it all back in to the trailer.
Then again AFTER the game at the same spot East of UNK Fine Arts to load the battery and sousaphones back in to the trailer and then unload back at the new High School Band room.
The first eight (8) people to sign up will be offered a free pass lanyard to the Football game. (Please return the lanyard/pass to me after the game so we have it for the next game).
Your help is needed and it is appreciated! Thank you!
Remember to wear BLUE.

The following posts are from 2017
–
10/21/17 – NSBA in Kearney
The Final Saturday is upon us. Thank you for being part of the Pit Crew this year. It has been a great marching season and it has been fun working together.
Saturday starts at 6:30 pm in the KHS Band room where we need those on the crew who are not working/volunteering to help host the event, to help the Pit move the equipment around the West side of the High School, through the South parking lot and to the South-west corner of the football field area. We will help the Pit set up the equipment, wagons and sound system in preparation for their performance. IF you are one of the volunteers helping host the event, when Columbus (the band right before Kearney) has left your area, please join our band and help us get our Pit on and off the field. You will be able to volunteer for either the afternoon or evening shifts and still be able to help our Band’s Pit Crew.
The Band marches in competition at 7:45 pm. After the competition we will hold the Pit equipment at the South end of the field while we wait for UNK’s performance and Awards. We will send the Pit students to join the Band after their performance to get pictures taken. After the Awards we will help move the Pit equipment back to the Band room. The trailer will not be used for the Band at this performance.
After everything is over, if you are available, we would appreciate any help with clean-up.
Thank you all for helping to make this a great marching season for our students.
You are appreciated!
Remember to wear BLUE on Saturday. Let’s represent Kearney well.

10/14/17 – Lincoln LPS competition
Thank you to everyone who helped in Grand Island last weekend. You make Kearney proud.
Great support for our students, our Directors and our Band.
This Saturday is the Lincoln LPS Competition at Seacrest Field at 3:45 pm.
Seacrest Field in Lincoln is at 75th and ‘A’ streets. (GPS coordinates: 40.798958, -96.621382)
We will leave KHS at 11:00 am on Saturday. This should get us to Seacrest in Lincoln at 1:00 pm. Look for the blue trailer and the Bearcat buses in the west parking lot. The Band has an hour and a half to watch other bands before we start getting ready. We will unload the battery percussion and flag carts, and sousaphones by the buses starting about 2:30 pm. It would be best if the whole crew gathered by the buses before we went to the field staging area in order to start getting ready.
Then we will move the trailer to the North end of the field to unload the pit equipment. This is probably around 3:00 pm that we will be down on the North end of the field getting everything unloaded and ready. There will numerous bands there on the back side of the buildings North of the field, so we will need to be efficient and probably will not have a lot of room to spread out while we get ready.
The Band performs at 3:45 pm.
After the performance, we will load the pit equipment in to the trailer and then return to the buses in the parking lot for the rest of the equipment. Awards are at 5:00 pm. After awards, the Band unloads and puts equipment away, then we load the battery percussion, flags and sousaphones back on the trailer in preparation for travelling back home. At 5:30 the Band departs for the Mall for supper and at 7:30 we leave for home. We should arrive home around 9:30 pm and unload the trailer.
Remember to wear blue. Contact Ed if you have any questions.
Thank you for helping – we’re glad you’re on the team.

10/13/17 Football Halftime
Here is the plan for Friday’s game. Remember to wear BLUE.
The Band meets at the UNK Fine Arts building at 5:30 pm. I will have the Band Trailer on the South side of the Library by 5:30 pm. (this is just East of Fine Arts) I need a few guys to help unload battery percussion, sousaphones, flags, etc. Then we move the trailer up to Foster Field.
Right before the game starts, we could use most of the crew that is available to unload the Pit percussion so they can set up and warm up. Then we can go watch the game up until about 5 minutes left in the first half. By 5 minutes left in the second quarter we need to have all Pit Crew members at the Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium. We will prepare to move the Pit equipment out on to the field and then after the show we will move it back to the trailer and load the trailer back up. When we load the trailer, we need to be preparing it for travelling to Lincoln on Saturday. I will then move the trailer back to the South side of the Library, East of Fine Arts.
After the game, if you could help make sure all the percussion stands and sousaphone stands come back to the trailer, that would be great. Then, we need a few guys to help load the battery percussion and sousaphones back on to the trailer once the Band is back to Fine Arts. Once we’re loaded up, we will take the trailer back to the High School. It does not get unloaded because we are headed for Lincoln on Saturday.
If you are available and want to help load the trailer on Friday afternoon at 2:30, you are welcome to join us. We have students that help, but if you want to come help you are welcome to come.
If you need to update your entry on the Availability Doodle, please do so ASAP. This helps us make sure we have enough scheduled help to run the Pit Crew at the Competitions this week for Lincoln and next week for NSBA. Thank you.
Note that you should be receiving a text reminder from me on Thursday or Friday. IF you do not receive a text, please let me know so I can get you on my text group list. This could be important on Saturday because the current forecast in Lincoln is rain and I’ll use text to notify the team.
Remember to wear BLUE. Thank you for being on the team. Your help is valuable to the Band and it is definitely appreciated. Every one of you makes a difference for the success of the Pit Crew. See you on Friday.

10/7/17 – Harvest of Harmoney Parade & Competition
Thank you for helping with the GI competition. Here is the plan.
The Band leaves KHS at 6:45 am. The trailer will already be loaded from Friday night’s game.
We arrive at Conestoga Mall at 7:45 am. We step off for the parade at 9:00am-ish.
After the parade (10:00am-ish), we meet back at Conestoga Mall to load the Battery percussion, Flags and Sousaphones back on to the trailer and then we take a lunch break.
By 1:00 pm we are at a rehearsal at GI Northwest’s football field. We will unload the trailer for this rehearsal and then reload it after the rehearsal. This is a full unload / rehearsal / reload the trailer, so any/all of the Pit Crew that can be there is beneficial. By 2:45 the band will change in to uniforms and depart for GISH by 3:15 pm.
By 4:00 pm we arrive at GI Senior High and unload the Battery percussion, flags and sousaphones on the South side of the High School (North of the field). Then we unload the pit equipment and prepare for our show. The Band performs on the field at 4:45 pm. After Awards we load the trailer and return to Kearney.
Back in Kearney we unload the trailer and we are finished.
If you have any questions, please contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694.
Remember to wear BLUE. Let’s represent Kearney with great class.

09/23/07 UNK Band Day & Bearcat Marching Festival
TIME CHANGES: Due to Weather, we are moving times up earlier. We need our Pit Crew at the Band Room by 1:15 pm, NOT 3:30pm. We will warm up music at 1:45, warmup marching at 2:00 and then perform on the field at 2:15 pm. All bands will move through much quicker in hopes of getting done ahead of the predicted rain.
We are not transporting any equipment from the High School to the UNK Band Day parade, each student is responsible for getting their own instrument to the parade and back, so we just go and enjoy the parade.
The Awards ceremony from the parade starts off the Bearcat Marching Festival at 1:00 pm at the KHS football field with an exhibition by the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band.
The trailer will be parked South of the High School building or just West of the South end of the football field. We will meet at our blue trailer at 3:30 pm to get set up and then move the equipment on the field and then back to the trailer and Band room after our Band’s performance. No extra stuff with this event – nice having a home-field situation.
3:30 pm Meet on Saturday at the Band trailer at the South side of the High School.
Remember to Wear BLUE.
3:45 | KHS Band arrives at the KHS Band Room |
4:15 | Official Warm Up time begins |
4:45 | Performance at the Bearcat Marching Festival |
5:15 | Finished |
Click here for all KHS Band itineraries.
Many of us will be helping work the Bearcat Marching Festival, so we will need all hands on deck to help get our band ready to perform. Getting stuff out of the trailer and helping the students move equipment from the Band room around the west side of the building down to the trailer in the Pit area would be very helpful.
Those of us helping with the Bearcat Marching Festival will join our Band’s pit crew as we move on to the field. KHS will be the last band to perform, so we will be done working when our Band takes the field.
Any help with tear-down / clean-up after the event is greatly appreciated.
If you are helping with the Bearcat Marching Festival, remember that we have a ‘run-through’ on Friday evening. We will be setting up parking barricades and such, so come prepared to get ready for Saturday. Meet in the Commons (Cafeteria area) by the Teachers’ lounge.

09/15/17 Football Game & Halftime
Here is the plan for Friday’s game. It’s basically the same as last week.
Remember to wear BLUE.
The Band meets at the UNK Fine Arts building at 5:30 pm. I will have the Band Trailer on the South side of the UNK CT Ryan Library by 5:25 pm. (this is just East of the Fine Arts building) I need a few guys to help unload battery percussion and sousaphones. Then we move the trailer up to Foster Field. Once we get the trailer to the field, we will unload the percussion stands and sousaphone stands in to the stadium and put up the rope.
Right before the game starts, we could use most of the crew that is available to unload the Pit percussion. Then we can go watch the game up until about 5 minutes left in the first half. At about 5 minutes left in the second quarter we need to have all Pit Dads at the Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium. We will prepare to move the Pit equipment out on to the field and then after the show we will move it back to the trailer and load the trailer back up. I will then move the trailer back to the South side of the Library, East of Fine Arts.
After the game, if you could help make sure all the percussion and sousaphone stands come back to the trailer, that would be great. Then, I need a few guys to help load the battery percussion and sousaphones back on to the trailer. Once we’re loaded up, we will take the trailer back to the High School and unload it in to the Band room.
IF you are available at about 3:00 pm or so, any help with loading the trailer at the High School would be greatly appreciated. I have the Band kids to help and it would go even quicker if we had a couple of Dads to help. I’m not asking you to leave work, I’m just offering the opportunity if you are available and would be willing to help.
If you have not filled out the availability schedule, please do so soon (click here). That helps me know if we have enough help for all competitions and games. We need to be in the mode of preparing for efficiency at competitions, so doing the same job at each game/competition is the goal. If you know of any other Band Dads who would be willing to help, have them contact me. You can also send them to this blog ( bearcatpitcrew.blogspot.com ) for information.
Remember to wear BLUE. Thank you for being on the team – your help is valuable and it is appreciated. See you on Friday.
PS: Here is the ‘job list’.
+Podium Right = Kevin
+Podium Center = Ed
+Podium Left = Eric
+Speaker Right = Andy
+Sound Rack = Shaun & Dave
+Speaker Left = Dean
+Wagon Tympani =
+Wagon Aux Perc. =
+Largest Marimba = Tom

Help Needed for Bearcat Marching Festival & NSBA Competitions
You may have already heard, but Kearney High Band is hosting both the Bearcat Marching Festival on Sept. 23rd and also NSBA on Oct. 21st. This is a great opportunity for the KHS Band. We need everyone’s help to make this an excellent competition event for the Bands in our state. Please contact Ed if you are available to help with directing Pit traffic at the competitions or with directing Bus traffic, selling tickets, etc. We are asking that volunteers help with both competitions if possible so that we are fully prepared for the larger event (NSBA). We expect about 10 bands with about 1000 guests at the Bearcat Marching Festival and around 3000 guests/fans and over 25 bands at NSBA from across the state. Contact Ed Uden or Andy Donovan with questions or to volunteer for this exciting event.

08/23/17 Football Game
The season begins. Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew!
The Band marches halftime at tonight’s game. We need your help at the start of the 2nd quarter at the North end of Foster Field, by the blue Band trailer. We will help get equipment ready to go on the field, then move it on to the field at the start of halftime and after the Band has performed we move it back off and load it back in to the trailer. These first weeks are vital because we are establishing what we each need to be doing for Halftime so that when the competitions start, we know the routine and can execute smoothly. Come join the team, we have a fun time.
We could also use a few people to help at 5:30 pm at UNK Fine Arts to get the percussion battery and sousaphones out. Look for the blue Band trailer – we will probably be parked on the South side of the Library (East of the Fine Arts building). Then again AFTER the game at UNK Fine Arts to load the battery and sousaphones back in to the trailer and then unload back at the new High School Band room. Students do most of this work, but it helps to have some adults around to assist in loading & unloading at UNK.
Your help is needed and it is appreciated! Thank you!
Remember to wear BLUE.

The following blog entries are from 2016
–
10/22/16 – NSBA in Kearney
The Final Saturday is upon us. Thank you for being part of the Pit Crew this year. You’re a great team and it’s fun working together. Remember to wear BLUE on Saturday.
Saturday starts at 1:40 pm on the South side of KHS where we need a few of the crew to help unload the trailer for the Band’s 2:00 pm rehearsal.
Then, at 3:30 pm or so, we load back up after their rehearsal is finished and get the trailer ready to go to UNK for the competition. The Band students will have their dinner at 4:00 pm and by 6:30 pm they will be in uniform and on the busses and depart for UNK.
We will meet at UNK in lot 14 shortly after 6:30 pm. We need the full crew starting at this point. Look for the trailer because last time they moved us to a different lot so you may need to look for us. We will unload the trailer and the Band will do the warm up sequence. We then reload the trailer and move it to the North end of Foster Field and unload and prepare for the competition.
The Band marches in competition at 8:00 pm. After the competition we reload the trailer. We will send the Pit students to join the Band at this point. After the trailer is loaded, we watch the Loper Band in exhibition and then the Awards.
After everything is over, we will return the trailer to the High School and unload it all into the Band room.
Thank you all for helping to make this a great marching season for our students.
You are appreciated!

10/21/16 Football Halftime
Here is the plan for Friday’s game. Remember to wear BLUE.
The Band meets at the UNK Fine Arts building at 5:30 pm. I will have the Band Trailer on the South side of the Library by 5:30 pm. (this is just East of Fine Arts) I need a few guys to help unload battery percussion and sousaphones. Then we move the trailer up to Foster Field.
Right before the game starts, we could use most of the crew that is available to unload the Pit percussion. We will also unload the barrels from the second trailer and put them on the 8′ wagon along with the metal items. Then we can go watch the game up until about 5 minutes left in the first half. By about 5 minutes left, we need to have all Pit Crew at the Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium.
Once we’re loaded up, we will take the trailer back to the High School.
We will not be loading the trailer at 3:30 on Friday because of the noon dismissal and the Directors and students will load it this week for the game.
Remember to wear BLUE. Thank you for being on the team. See you Friday evening.

10/15/16 – Lincoln LPS competition
Thank you to everyone who helped in Omaha last weekend. You make Kearney proud.
Great support for our students, our Directors and our Band.
This Saturday is the Lincoln LPS Competition at Seacrest Field at 4:00 pm.
Seacrest Field in Lincoln is at 75th and ‘A’ streets. (GPS coordinates: 40.798958, -96.621382)
We will load the trailers on Friday at 3:30 pm if you are available to help.
We will leave KHS at 12 noon on Saturday. This should get us to Seacrest in Lincoln at 2:15 pm. Look for the blue trailer and the Bearcat buses. We will unload the battery percussion, sousaphones and flags by the buses. It would be best if the whole crew gathered by the buses before we went to the field staging area in order to start getting ready.
Then we will move the trailer to the North end of the field to unload the pit equipment and the barrels. This is probably around 2:45 pm or so that we will be down on the North end of the field getting everything unloaded and ready. There will numerous bands there on the back side of the buildings, so we will need to be efficient and probably will not have a lot of room to spread out while we get ready.
The Band performs at 4:00 pm. We will enter the field from the North end, just like we do at UNK. The Band will enter from the North end with us, just like we did at GI. Remember that once the Band take the field after everything has been set up and we have exited the field, even if something falls, we cannot enter the field to assist (it’s a penalty point). It’s all up to the students during the performance. This is also a timed performance. We have 15 minutes to get on the field, perform the show, and get everything off the field. So when we are getting off the field, get it all loaded up and get past the goal line. Once everyone is past the goal line, our time is over and we can resume a ‘normal’ pace.
After the performance, we will load the trailers and prepare the for transport back home. Awards are at 5:00 pm. At 5:30 the Band departs for the Mall for supper and at 7:00 we leave for home. We should arrive home around 9:00 pm and unload the trailer.
Remember to wear blue. Contact Ed if you have any questions.
Thank you for helping – we’re glad you’re on the team.

10/8/16 – Bellevue East Competition
Thank you to all who helped with the GI competition. Well done.
Here is the plan for the Omaha trip.
If you are available, we will load the trailer on Friday 10/7/16 at 3:30 pm.
Then, the buses and trailers leave KHS at 6:00 am on Saturday 10/8/16.
We arrive at the Bellevue East stadium at 9:00 am. This is when we need the crew at the trailer to help unload and get ready. We need to get the battery and sousaphones out and get the pit equipment ready as well as the barrels. According to the map, the truck parking is on the East side of their High School building. (GPS coordinates: 41.14541, -95.902368)
The Band goes to their warm up sequence at 10:00 and performs at 11:00 am. We will be moving equipment into place as needed and then be ready for their performance. This is a timed performance, so we have 15 minutes to get on the field, do the show and get off the field.
Once their performance is over, we will load everything back on to the trailer. Awards are at 1:00 pm so that is when we find out if we perform again. If we perform again, then we will discuss schedules and when we need to get back together later in the afternoon to be ready. If we happen to not perform again, then we are done until we get home to unload.
After awards, the Band is going to the mall for lunch. The Finals then start at 3:30 pm. If we perform, we will have our times from the Directors and will know when we need to be back at the trailer and when we need to be ready.
This is a different type of competition than we have been at before, so thank you for your flexibility and teamwork. We need all the help we can get for these competitions with everything we are moving on and off the field quickly.
Thank you for helping and know that you are appreciated!

10/3/16 – Harvest of Harmoney Parade & Competition
Thank you for helping with the GI competition. Here is the plan.
The Band leaves KHS at 7:30 am. The trailer will already be loaded from Friday night’s game.
We arrive at Connestoga Mall at 8:30 am. We unload the Battery percussion, Sousaphones and Flags at the mall. Once the students are in uniform they take their percussion and sousaphones on the bus with them. We will leave the trailer parked at Connestoga mall.
After the parade (11:00 am), we meet back at Connestoga Mall to load the Battery percussion, Flags and Sousaphones back on to the trailer and then we take a lunch break.
By 1:00 pm we are at a rehearsal at GI Northwest’s football field. We will unload the trailer for this rehearsal and then reload it after the rehearsal.
At 4:00 pm we go to GI Senior High and unload the Battery percussion, flags and sousaphones by the Band. Then we move the trailers over to the North end of the field and unload the pit equipment and the barrel trailer. The Band performs on the field at 5:15 pm. After Awards at 5:45 pm, we load the trailer and return to Kearney.
Back in Kearney (about 7:45 pm) we unload the trailer and we are finished.
If you have any questions, please contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694.

We will not be loading the trailer at 3:30 on Friday because the Band has a rehearsal from 9 – 11 and will load after their rehearsal.
Remember to wear BLUE. Thank you for being on the team. See you on Friday.

9/23/16 Football Halftime – BARREL crew
If you are a new volunteer offering to help with the Pit Crew to help move barrels, we appreciate your help. Please meet Ed Uden by the blue Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium at the end of the 1st quarter. We will put our plan together and move the barrels and steel items to the field with the rest of the pit crew at the start of halftime, then move them off after halftime. If you have questions, please contact Ed Uden or one of the Directors. See you on Friday.

Right before the game starts, we could use most of the crew that is available to unload the Pit percussion. Then we can go watch the game up until about 5 minutes left in the first half. At about 4 to 5 minutes left, we need to have all Pit Dads at the Band Trailer at the North end of the stadium. We will prepare to move the Pit equipment out on to the field and then after the show we will move it back to the trailer and load the trailer back up. I will then move the trailer back to the South side of the Library, East of Fine Arts.

Once we’re loaded up, we will take the trailer back to the High School and unload it in to the Band room.
IF you are available at about 3:30 pm, any help with loading the trailer would be greatly appreciated. I have the Band kids to help and it would go even quicker if we had a couple of Dads to help. I’m not asking you to leave work, I’m just offering the opportunity if you are available and would be willing to help.
It looks like we may have the inverter/generator for the audio cart by Friday.
We also have some props to add to the show. This may mean a second trailer as well as we will use the third wagon to haul some barrels and percussion gear on to the field. So, if you know of any other Band Dads who would be willing to help, have them contact me. You can also send them to this blog ( bearcatpitcrew.blogspot.com ) for information.
Remember to wear BLUE. Thank you for being on the team. See you on Friday.

UNK Band Day / Bearcat Marching Festival
We are not transporting equipment from the High School to the UNK Band Day parade, each student is responsible for getting their instrument to the parade and back, so we get to just go and enjoy the parade. Check the UNK site for details.
The Awards ceremony from the parade starts off the Marching Festival at 1:00 pm with an exhibition by the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band.
The trailer is parked South of the High School building or just West of the South end of the football field. We will meet at the blue trailer at 3:30 pm to get set up and then move the equipment on the field and then back to the trailer after their performance. No extra stuff with this event – nice having a home-field situation.
Click here for KHS Band itineraries.
3:30 pm Saturday at the Band trailer at the South side of the High School.

9/2/16 Football Halftime
The season begins. Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew!
The Band marches halftime at tonight’s game. We need your help at the start of the 2nd quarter at the North end of Foster Field, by the blue Band trailer. We will help get equipment ready to go on the field, then move it on to the field at the start of halftime and after the Band has performed we move it back off and load it back in to the trailer.
We could also use a few people to help at 5:30 pm at UNK Fine Arts to get the percussion battery and sousaphones out. Look for the blue Band trailer. Then again AFTER the game at UNK Fine Arts to load the battery and sousaphones back in to the trailer and then unload back at the new High School Band room.
Your help is valuable and it is appreciated!
