Saturday, 10/21/23 NSBA in Kearney
For our KHS Pit Crew: by 7:45 pm please report to the Band room so that by no later than 8:15 we can start and help push equipment to the South end of the school. We need to have everything at the Pit Area at the South end, ready to go, so we can stage outside the fence at 8:30 pm, on deck at 8:45, and perform at 9:00 pm. After the performance we will ‘park’ our equipment at the Southwest corner of the track.
After KHS performs, we will participate and have fun with Pit Crew Olympics. We need to bring several teams to the Olympics. This is a fun time to cheer on our guests and enjoy the Olympics together. UNK performs at 9:30 after the Pit Olympics, and the Awards are at 9:45 pm
After awards we cleanup and help get our equipment back to the Band room and we also put carts and podiums and uniform carts in the trailer for storage purposes. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Remember to wear BLUE to support our Band.
Also, remember that we represent KHS Band, KHS and the city of Kearney as we host this event. Help us make our guests feel welcome and help them enjoy their visit. This is a great event for us to host.
Thank you for all of your help this year. We appreciate each and every one of you who have helped on the Pit Crew team, if it was for every event or for just one night, you are appreciated very much!
.
We are hosting NSBA 2023 Kearney! If you can volunteer to help with hosting, we appreciate your help. Event volunteers will be able to help with our band pit crew as well. All bands will have arrived by the time we need to tend to our Band so if you are an event volunteer you can then transition to our Pit Crew team and help with moving our equipment. Thank you to everyone who has been helping on the Pit Crew. We’re glad you’re on the team. We have another football game and halftime performance on Friday, October 20, 2023.
We will need at least dozen people to help with the Pit Crew for this game and for tomorrow’s NSBA competition. This game will be a good run-through for the pit crew in preparation for the final performance tomorrow at NSBA in Kearney. Please be sure to sign up for the game and for the NSBA competition on the SignUp Genius link on this site or the Band website.
The evening schedule:
5:25 pm – South side of CT Ryan Library on UNK campus – unload percussion and low brass
6:00 pm – move to North side of Foster Field – unload everything for the game and performance – this includes stands to the stadium, podiums, all instruments and props
6:30 pm – manage parking lot traffic for a safe passage of the band
*** This is Senior Night, so if you have a Senior, once we have everything unloaded be sure to go assemble for the recognition on the field.
Once the band is at the field, you can go watch the game – we need you back at the trailer by 5:00 in 2nd qtr.
At 5:00 minutes time clock remaining of 2nd quarter – meet at trailer for assignments (do the same job you have been doing all year – if possible) and prepare to move to field
At 2:00 minutes time clock remaining – move front ensemble out onto the field
After the performance, we reload the trailer
After the game, please bring the Sousa stands to the trailer ASAP. We also need all stands and equipment returned to the trailer.
We will need help unloading back at the High School afterward. This is NSBA weekend and we are hosting at Kearney High School. We need everything unloaded so students have it ready for a Saturday morning rehearsal and for their NSBA performance on Saturday evening. See the NSBA post for details.
For all the details, visit our Football page with the whole game plan for the evening.
Remember to sign up on the SignUp Genius page. We need to make sure we have enough Pit Crew help to get the job done.
Contact Ed Uden 308-440-0694 if you have any questions. We will be updating information on this Pit Crew site (http://pitcrew.kearneybands.com) and on the Band website under Band Parent Assoc / Band Pit Crew.
Thank you for helping with the Pit Crew. Remember to wear blue.

October 14, 2023 will be the Omaha Marching Invitational at Burke High School in Omaha.
Our schedule for OMI:
7:30 am Load Buses & hat bags
8:00 am Depart Kearney
10:30 am Arrive at Omaha Burke, 12200 Burke St., Omaha, NE 68154 (map)
11:55 am Warmup
12:45 pm – 1:00 pm Preliminary Performance
3:15 pm Preliminary Awards
4:00 pm Buses to Westroads Mall for food and shopping
6:30 pm – 8:45 pm Final Performances
9:00 pm Finals Awards Presentation
9:30 pm Depart Omaha for Kearney
12:30 am Arrive at KHS and unload
Trailer parking will be in the area southeast of the field. Buses will park in the lot east of the trailers. Click here for maps of the site. Spectator parking is west of the football stadium.
We follow Fort Calhoun after lunch and Millard South follows us.
Front Ensemble Warmup is 11:25-11:55 (B) and staging is at 12:15 pm.
Band Warmup is 11:55-12:25 (B) and reports at the gate at 12:35 pm.
Kearney performs at 12:45 pm in the Preliminary Performances.
Click here for the full Preliminary schedule.
Note that entrance to this field is similar to KHS, entering from the South.
This is a timed performance, so we need to be efficient when entering and also when exiting. We need to get past the South goal line in time. Exiting bands have right of way when clearing the field.
The Pit setup area where the trailers park is on an inclined parking lot. We will need to use our loadlocks to block our cart wheels, etc. We will need trailers unloaded and props assembled before 11:45 so the pit can go to their warmup.
Following the 12:45 pm performance, we will return all equipment and props to the trailer area. We will not reload it all into the trailer as we will perform again in the evening. We will keep it staged in an orderly manner behind the trailers. We should be done with this by 1:15 or so. Then we will need to reconvene toward evening. We will announce that once we know our evening performance time and calculate back to the setup time – I would plan to be back by 5:00 at the latest, unless our time has us adjust accordingly. Call/text Ed 308-440-0694 with questions or to check on the time schedule for the evening.

Saturday, October 7, 2023 is the Harvest of Harmony Parade and Field Competition in Grand Island.
We load buses and hat bags 6:15-7:15 and leave KHS at 7:15 am and will need some help at GISH parking lot by 8:00 am to unload battery percussion and sousaphones for the Parade. In the parade, Kearney steps off at 9:40 am – entry #143 = after Gothenburg HS & before Lincoln Northwest HS. FYI, UNK Band is #96. After the parade we return to GISH parking lot and awards are at 11:45 am. FYI, UNK Band is on the field at 11:30 am. At 12:00 noon we load buses and go to lunch in the Connestoga Mall area and return at 1:30 pm. After lunch we return to GISH and by 2:00 pm we will prepare for the field competition – unload trailers, 3:00 pm music warmup, 3:20 pm marching warmup, on deck at 3:35 pm and Kearney competes at 3:45 pm. The Awards are at 5:30 pm. We are the first AA band after the Class A Awards – let’s set the bar really high for AA bands. After the competition we load the trailers and then we leave GI at 6:00 pm and return to KHS at 7:00 pm and unload.
Remember to wear Blue to show our support for our students.
Thank you for your involvement in the Pit Crew. You are appreciated!

Thank you to everyone who has been helping on the Pit Crew. We’re glad you’re on the team. We have another football game and halftime performance on Friday, October 6, 2023.

We do not unload at the HS as we will leave for GI in the morning.

09/30/23 Columbus Parade & Field Competition
We hit the road starting this Saturday. See the Band website Itineraries page.
The Band will load from 7:00-8:00 am and leave KHS by 8:00 am on Saturday. The trailer will be loaded on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm, but we will load hat bags and uniforms on Saturday morning. The trailers will follow the buses as we travel to Columbus.
At 10:00 am we arrive in Columbus and the band gets in uniform. We need to unload the instruments (for the parade) at this time. We will likely be a block or so South of the parade route in Columbus, usually in the gravel parking area by the railroad (about 25th Ave & 12th St). *updated 9/27/23 – We are supposed to stage on 12th St. between 27th and 26th Ave – between Northwest HS and Norfolk HS. Once the students have their instruments, we load the carts back on the trailer and lock it up and it stays parked. We follow Northwest High School. We can then go watch the parade until Kearney marches through. When Kearney is done marching the parade, we load instruments back on the carts and back in to the trailer, and are done with the parade.
After the parade, we go to Pawnee Park (where the field competition is – on the South side of Columbus – right after you cross the river entering Columbus from the South on the highway, on the west side of the highway) and have time for lunch (approximately 12:00 pm). The trailers will follow the buses. As always, look for our blue trailer. The bus parking is East of the field, and the trailer parking is in the lot to the south-east of the bus parking lot.
The itinerary notes that the Parade awards are at 1:00 pm. Lunch break is 12:00 pm to almost 1:00 pm.
After the lunch break, we need to be ready to unload the trailer by 12:50 pm. Look for our blue trailer parked Southeast of the field (if they have not changed their event plan). We unload the trailer by 1:00 pm and prepare for the competition. We will need to assist the students in moving the pit equipment to their warm-up area by 1:25 pm and then to the competition field by 2:00 pm to be on-deck at 2:10 pm.
Kearney’s performance time is 2:15 pm. We follow Lakeview High School. Note that we will enter the field from the South side of the stadium, so we will be lined up to enter in modified field order (we line up in reverse order of the UNK field). Once our performance is complete, we exit the field on the North side of the stadium and move our equipment back to the trailer and load the trailer to prepare for travelling home.
Field awards are at 6:30 pm. We will leave for Kearney by 7:00 pm and arrive in Kearney around 10:00 pm. Plans are to stop for a dinner break on the way home. We unload the trailer back in to the Band room when we get back to the High School.
It will be a big day, but remember that we are representing Kearney – let’s do our very best.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for helping on the Pit Crew Team. You are appreciated!

Click here for all the details from Columbus.
Bus route in Columbus to the parade staging area: Bus/truck drivers take either 23rd Street or 8th Street to 23rd Avenue. Then take 23rd Avenue to 12th street. Enter 12th street from 23rd avenue. All parent/Pit Crew volunteer vehicles can park in the area and come help with unloading/loading the trailer.
Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 is UNK Band Day and Bearcat Marching Festival.
For the UNK Band Day Parade, the trailer will not be going to the parade (per the Directors), so students will need to get their own equipment to and from the parade, and we will not need to have anyone at the parade route to load/unload the trailer. This gives us time to be ready for the BMF parking and pit area details.
For the Bearcat Marching Festival, the Band equipment will be in the KHS Band room. The Band is to assemble at 2:00 pm in the Band room, so our Kearney Pit Crew needs to be available by 2:15 pm to help move all the equipment to the South end of the HS parking lot. We begin staging our pit crew outside the fence at 3:00 pm so we need to start moving equipment from the Band room at 2:40 pm so we are at the South end of the field by 3:00 pm. At 3:15 pm we move our Pit on to the track (On Deck). We follow Grand Island, so when they are On Deck (their Pit is on the track), our Pit needs to be in the staging area outside the fence. Be sure to stay on the North half of that driveway so that the Grand Island band can enter the field and perform. After the Grand Island band enters the field, the Hershey Pit will exit the field and then our KHS Pit will enter the track and be On Deck. Stay on the outside four lanes and be in the order we enter the field. Remember that this is in reverse order from what we do at UNK for football halftime shows. The sound system and speakers will always be first, but the rest of the pit will be in reverse order. Once the Pit is set out on the field, we stand back against the front of the stadium while they perform. After their performance, we will move everything to the Band Room. If you can help with getting equipment to the Band room and with cleanup, that would be appreciated.
If you are helping with the BMF event, you need to stay at your position with the volunteers for the BMF event until we assemble at 3:00 pm. By 3:00 pm please join our KHS Pit Crew for moving our gear for the KHS Band performance. Those not helping with BMF will need to help us with moving equipment from the Band room to the South end of the field while the BMF volunteers are finishing their tasks. The Parking workers should be done when Grand Island parks, so they should be able to leave their posts and help on pit schedule. The Pit Area volunteers will need to get Hershey and Grand Island on the field and then they can join the KHS Pit to help get KHS on/off the field.
Thank you for your help. We appreciate everyone who is helping. Everyone is needed for this event to happen successfully, both as a BMF volunteer and as a KHS Pit Crew volunteer. Thank you.
Remember to wear BLUE.
Thank you for helping and supporting the KHS Band.
Be sure to make our BMF guests feel welcome. Remember, we represent Kearney in all we do.

Thank you to everyone who helped at the first football game. We’re glad you’re on the team. That was not our normal routine – hopefully the weather cooperates better the rest of the year.
We have another football game and halftime performance on Friday, September 8, 2023 and on Friday, September 15, 2023.
We will need a dozen people to help with the Pit Crew for each game and each competition. Please be sure to sign up for each game and each competition on the SignUp Genius link on this site or the Band website.
The evening starts at 5:25 pm on the South side of the CT Ryan Library on the UNK campus where we unload the battery percussion and low brass instruments. Then by 6:00 pm we move to the North end of Foster Field to unload the Front Ensemble and everything for the Halftime performance. You can watch the game from the start until 5:00 minutes (game clock time) before halftime when we line up to go on the field for the Halftime performance. After the game, please bring the percussion stands and the sousa stands to the trailer which will be back on the South side of CT Ryan Library. We will need the sousa stands ASAP. We do unload back at the HS Band room afterward.
